Off Roading into Oblivion

So last Sunday we decided to take a drive up around Mt. Charleston, but on the way there we decided to just keep going up 95 a little further.  Then we see this dirt road off to the right that appears to lead up to some buildings way off in the distance, so we take the turn.  We approach the buildings at 15 miles per hour and Taj was rumbling in the back seat the whole time just to hear his voice rattle.  The buildings are old and worn out and have some old signs that say we are the Desert Wildlife Refuge (note: we did not see any wildlife.  No wild mustangs, burrows, jackrabbits, snakes, lizards, nada).  But we did see a sign that said "Mormon Well Road" and being Mormons ourselves this peaked our interest.  So we continued on the dirt road that appeared to lead to nothingness with faith (just like any good Mormons would right?).  And we carried on at 15 miles per hour and a yodeling baby in the back seat and on and on.  Until we decided to call it a day because we were way way out in no man's (or even one lousy lizard's) land and we didn't want to get stranded out in the wilderness with nothing but a sippy cup and some goldfish crackers to sustain us.  And that's the story.  Riveting no?  We drove on and on and found zip, but the good news is that we did survive, got some sweet photos of the nothingness and one killer view of Vegas (if you zoom in on it) and Taj ended up yodeling himself to sleep on ride home!  The end!

We have totally driven out there. We were trying to find the hidden forest on our outing. We were expecting lush, green pines, but it turned out it was a hidden forest of joshua trees. Not what we were expecting, but there were some HUGE joshua trees. It was pretty cool! It had just rained and it smelled SO good. We didn't see any wildlife either, but it was a fun little drive. However, we didn't have a yodeling toddler accompanying us in those days either.

I love the pics! It makes me homesick!

Taking the road less travelled...maybe it's less travelled for a reason. :) Just kidding, I love the story and I love your little family! Maybe you drove right over the well and didn't realize it? Thanks for posting the pictures - Vegas does have so much beauty. But not as much beauaty as Cathy Nicole Snavely. Merry, Merry Christmas to you!

Something along the lines of "it's not the destination but the journey along the way," right? Too bad you don't have a taping of Taj's yodeling act......

Love that you were off the beaten path! Kinda plays into your personality a little huh?

What a fun day! Sometime I'll blog about the day we took a trip to the bird refuge, snuck our dog in, and well, we didn't realize he was a bird dog! Yeah, there was some yodeling that day as well!

Splendid pictures. 'Specially that one of Mark and Taj on top of the 4-Runner. Save it. Taj will remember it later in life.
