Taj's new bike tricks

This video demonstrates Taj's new tricks. 1) Handlebar wiggle 2) Bum behind and below the seat 3) Carving (arcing turn on an inclined driveway) and 4) Feet up on the handlebars.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste, Funny hair, bike trick

Sometimes Cathy lets Taj put on some of her lotion.  So Taj decided to put on some lotion himself.
If you are familiar with Boudreaux's Butt Paste its not exactly lotiony.  It's much more tar like (doesn't wash off easy).  He is wondering "Am I in trouble?"
"Oh good, you see the humor in my silly curiosity too"
"Hey Mom, this paste kinda tastes yummy"
Ari's hair always looks so cute at the end of the day when her pigtails come out.
One of Taj's new tricks on his bike is to put both legs up on the handle bars (an homage to Pee Wee Herman) while riding.  He love love loves riding his bike.

Flaming Ball of Deathplosion!

Taj never gets tired of throwing rocks

Father and Sons Campout

This was Taj's second father/son campout.  This one was way funner cause Taj could keep up with the rest of the kids a lot better than last year when he was only 2.
We camped at Buffington Pockets (near Valley of Fire).  Taj and I climbed to the tippy top of this rock formation.
The whole time up and down Taj kept saying "Don't hold my hand Dad!  I can do it by myself!"
These sandstone rocks always have the coolest little shapes and holes.
This is Taj and some of his buddies.  They wanted to show me all the cool indian drawings they found.
Since the majority of the sons on this campout seemed to be 8 yrs old and younger, they set up a little rappel for the boys.
Taj (3 yrs old) got to do his first rappel.  He did awesome and wasn't really scared at all.
Muscles!
Taj even got to challenge Joseph Smith to a stick pull contest.  There was a short program recreating the experience Joseph Smith had with the Angel Moroni and finding the Gold Plates.  He decided to let Joseph win so the other kids wouldn't lose faith in him.
Joseph even showed them the stone box containing the records Moroni had told him about.
Instead of Gold Plates the boys found a golden three ring binder with testimonies in it.  We all got to write our testimonies and add them to the binder.
Joseph then sealed the box with caulking to make it safe from water.
The boys helped Joseph replace the stone cover.  This was an awesome little experience for them (and me).  This box of testimonies has been buried for 7 years.
This was the set up for the Flaming Ball of Deathplosion.  This metal wire stretches a couple hundred feet up the mountain.  See youtube video.

Taj's two wheel adventures (pt 2)

Taj two wheel adventures (pt 1)

Just because she's cute

Her personality is blossoming more and more each day.
She is on the verge of walking and talking.  Lots of changes coming in the next 6 months.

Grass update

Grass seems to be germinating fine.
Seems like Taj will soon have some grass to play on rather than just dust and rocks.

Cabin, racers, snow and mud!

At the end of April Taj and I got to go play up at a cabin for the weekend.  Our Stake YM President (Vaughn) lets us use the family cabin each year for a mission prep campout for the high school seniors in the Stake.  This weekend was just to plan and play before the actual mission prep campout.
Taj helped hammer up some targets (he left the actual shooting to the dads).
This can was getting out of line so we popped some caps in it.
Taj loved riding on the "racers."  Loved is probably an understatement.
Taj made friends with Brooklynn (Vaughn's daughter).
This looks like one 3 yr old you don't want to mess with.
Vroom-Vrooom!!!!
"Come on Dad, we gotta keep racing!"
The cabin is 3 hrs North of Las Vegas in the mountains outside of Alamo, NV.
As if all this excitement wasn't enough, Taj had a whole bunch of snow and mud to play with right outside the cabin.
Tajjy's paradise!
Proof that the weekend was a success.  The moment he was restrained he passed out completely exhausted.

Grocery bag kites

A couple weeks ago Cathy decided to show Taj (and his friend Jake) the wonders of grocery bag kites.
Taj loved this new game.
Perfect past time for a windy spring day in Las Vegas.
Ari also approved of this fun activity.  Nice work super mom!

Seeding the back yard

About a week or so my friend Josh came over and helped seed some grass in our backyard.
This is the before shot.
Taj came out in his PJ's all ready to help us work.  Though it was not cold at all he decided he should wear his "scarf" (aka his beanie).
Taj helping Josh spread some dirt.
Working hard.
"So this is what the dirt feels like getting dumped from the wheel barrel."
Taj was more than happy to help spread seed.
According to Josh the seed should germinate and grow in the next 3 weeks or so.  Thanks Josh.

Video from Pioneer Trek

Pioneer Trek

Cathy and I got to be a "Ma & Pa" on our Ward pioneer trek this past weekend
Cathy found this really cool stick bug while we were exploring around camp (these are really common in FL).

I used a stick to lure it off the back of her skirt so she could see it.  She immediately fell in love with the cuddly little bug.
This is our trek family.  We had the best kids ever.
We came to some deep water to cross so we all formed a chain to pass our equipment across.
This was a lot of fun.
This baby was secured to the handcart for safety purposes.  Some kid is going to be a wonderful parent someday.
This is the deepest section of water.  We weren't supposed to take the handcarts in more than 13" of water.  Oops.
After all the handcarts and equipment was safely across some of the youth couldn't resist busting a few cannonballs.
This tiny little cotton ball plant was pretty cool looking.
Some of the young men decided it would be fun to roll some old tires down a giant hill.  They probably didn't think it was quite as fun hiking down to carry them back up.
Most of the trek the youth pushed the handcart without help from the Ma and Pa.
A young woman in our family found this tiny little caterpillar while we were resting.
There were sections of trail we had to trail blaze and machete our way through some brush.
This mud was so thick that is pulled the shoes right off your feet.
The deepest mud came up to my knees.  This part was so sweet!
I was really worried that this trek would be too easy.  This hill was the beginning of several miles of hills just like this.  At this point I stopped worrying about it being too easy and started worrying about being the Pa who might not make it to the end.
We made it!  Growing up in FL we never did any handcart treks like this.  Super cool experience, if you get the chance I highly recommend participating.
